The Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe adopted the Resolution concerning Holodomor of Years 1932-1933 in Ukraine

The Resolution was adopted on 3 July at the 17th Annual Session of the OSCE held in Astana. Having adopted the said document, the Parliamentary Assembly paid honour to millions of Ukrainians perished from Holodomor due to "brutal planned actions and policy of the totalitarian regime of Stalin". 

 

Oleh Bilorus, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, and Head of the Standing Delegation of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, initiated the Draft Resolution.

 

The OSCE participating States declared the importance of disseminating the information about the tragedy of the Ukrainian nation in order to prevent similar disasters in future. They uphold the international and national initiatives of Ukraine aimed at disclosure of truth about Holodomor of Years 1932-1933 in Ukraine, and holding of extensive public and scientific discussions of the said issue.

 

The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly confirmed its commitments "to condemn totalitarianism utterly and implicitly", and appealed to the parliaments of the OSCE participating States with a request to recognize Holodomor of Years 1932-1933 in Ukraine.

 

O.Bilorus, Head of the Ukrainian delegation, was elected Vice-President of the OSCE PA.

 

The OSCE PA involves 320 parliament members from 56 European and North-American States.
