The Committee on Environmental Policy, Use of Natural Resources and Elimination of Consequences of Chornobyl Disaster recommends that the Parliament adopts in Entirety the Bill on Amendments to the Law "On the Red Data Book of Ukraine" (re enhanced Protection of Rare Species of Flora and Fauna)

The Bill (Reg. No. 0948) is aimed at improvement of legislation appertaining to protection of rare species of flora and fauna; and at coordination of the Law "On the Red Data Book of Ukraine" with the Law "On the Protection of Animals from Brutal Treatment".  The Bill includes proposals concerning a ban on use of rare or endangered species of flora and fauna with economic, commercial, military purpose and to obtain profit.

It is envisaged to elaborate and ratify local (regional, of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Kyiv and Sevastopol) Red Lists of rare and endangered species of flora and fauna, included in the Red Data Book of Ukraine, the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources and the European Red List.

Inter alia, it will become impossible to remove from the environment, transport, sell, import to the territory of Ukraine or export beyond its borders rare of endangered species of flora and fauna, included in the Red Data Book of Ukraine, and their parts, eggs and roe, without a permit of an authorized central executive body on environmental protection. It is also proposed to prohibit illegitimate and malicious elimination, appropriation, excavation, damage, trampling down, catch, cutting, destruction of rare or endangered species of flora and fauna, included in the Red Data Book of Ukraine, and their parts, eggs and roe.

Adoption of the Bill will enhance environmental protection and humanization of the society.
