One committee is today in focus:

Committee on Human Rights, National Minorities and Interethnic Relations

The committee’s head met today with the Special Advisor to Council of Europe’s Secretary General for Ukraine Regis Brillat.

The official guest was informed about the state of affairs in protection of the rights and freedoms in Ukraine in the light of the armed conflict in Donbas and annexation of the Crimea by Russia.

‘To my regret, our supreme authorities still see the forced out-migrants as a problem, not as solution. They adopted a range of by-laws conflicting the Ukrainian legislation, being at the same time quite discriminating concerning this group of our citizens. This seems to be inadmissible. All the group’s rights must be protected,’ the committee’s head commented tersely.

Regis Brillat too, in his turn, reverted to high importance of protection of the human rights and freedoms in Ukraine in view of its obligations under the Council of Europe membership.

The parties also scrutinized closely the international citizenship standards, and exchanged their views upon voting rights to the internally displaced persons.
The committee has petitioned to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine calling on to reconcile the enactment on social benefits for the forced out-migrants with the Ukrainian legislation.
