The Committee on European Integration recommends that the Parliament rejects several Resolutions

The Committee members listened to the report of Valeriy Konovaliuk, the People´s Deputy of Ukraine, regarding the Draft Resolution "On Compliance of Resolutions concerning Ukraine´s Accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) with the Constitution of Ukraine, the Declaration of State Sovereignty of Ukraine, Declaration of Ukrainian Independence´s Act and the Public Will" (Reg. No.1402-3).

 

Inter alia, the Bill states that "resolutions concerning Ukraine´s accession to the NATO can be adopted only after parliamentary hearings, introduction of amendments to the legislative acts of Ukraine, and on the grounds of the national referendum".

 

Borys Tarasiuk, the Committee Chairman, stated that "the title of the Draft Resolution fails to conform to its contents".  The Committee recommends that The Verkhovna Rada rejects the Draft Resolution (Reg. No. 1402-3).

 

The Committee members also recommend that the Parliament rejects the Draft Resolution "On Resolution concerning Ukraine´s Accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization" (Reg. No. 1402-4).

 

The Committee members also listened to the report of Valeriy Konovaliuk, the People´s Deputy of Ukraine, regarding the Draft Resolution "On Holding of Parliamentary Hearings on the Subject "Cooperation between Ukraine and the NATO: Advantages and Drawbacks" (Reg. No. 1394-1). The author states that adoption of the said Resolution will allow holding a public discussion of the issue concerning cooperation between Ukraine and the NATO in view of political speculation on the said issue and deep confrontation in the society.

 

The Committee members deem impossible to organize the parliamentary hearings within the terms defined by the Bill (28 February 2008).

 

The Committee passed a resolution to hold consultations with Valeriy Konovaliuk regarding date of holding of parliamentary hearings and the title of the Bill.
