In particular, the Address reads:

"In 1932-1933, Ukraine suffered a huge tragedy — the Holodomor, which took lives of millions of people. The criminal communist totalitarian regime did its best to eliminate the Ukrainians. Such regime's policy is a crime against humanity under the United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide dated December 9, 1948.

With the Law of Ukraine On Holodomor 1932-1933 dated November 28, 2006, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine declared the Holodomor a crime of genocide against the Ukrainian people. With the Law of Ukraine On Condemnation of Communist and National-Socialist (Nazi) Regimes and Ban on Propaganda of Their Symbols dated April 9, 2015, the Ukrainian legislature condemned the communist totalitarian regime as a crime.

In 1932-1933, the communist totalitarian regime disguised its crimes behind as the wall of propaganda and total lies. Decades later, the regime continued burying the truth about the Holodomor.

The leadership of the USSR blocked any information leaking about the real situation in Ukraine at the time and purposefully disoriented the world community. Nevertheless some foreign journalists, who managed to visit Ukraine in those times, did informed the world about the crimes of the regime.

Today we call such journalists the people of the truth. These were journalists, public men, artists, politicians of the democratic world and ordinary Ukrainian villagers. Some of them published articles in free printed press and others described the seen and suffered in their diaries.

They believed that the truth they witnessed was important to counter the evil that killed millions of people. Thanks to their efforts, information about one of the gravest crimes in the history of the humankind was retained. In many years, this information became one of the reasons for the collapse of the communist regime, on the ruins of which Ukraine started going along its independent path.

Today Ukraine is again a victim of the aggression of the Stalin-era followers from the Kremlin. Ukraine is currently fighting not only against the aggression in its east, but also a large-scale information war based on lies.

Commemorating the victims of the Holodomor 1932-1933, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expresses deep appreciation to all those, who broke through the communist iron curtain of propaganda and lies, all those who helped keep the memory of that tragedy of the Ukrainian people and all those, who day by day restored the whole historic truth about the Holodomor.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine also thanks all the states currently supporting Ukraine in its countering the aggressor and those, who inform the world community about true events taking place in our country today.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine calls on the foreign states to recognize the Holodomor 1932-1933 a crime of genocide of the Ukrainian people.

Our joint memory about the crimes of the past prevents from similar tragedies in the future!"

Respective draft resolution No. 3525 was passed with 233 votes of members of the Ukrainian Parliament.
