Chair of the parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, Hanna Hopko, has met with Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ebrahim Rahimpour, who is staying in Ukraine on his official visit.

The sides discussed a wide range of issues touching cooperation between Ukraine and Iran and noted that relations between the two states have always been friendly.

The next important step to deepen interparliamentary relations should be a visit at the highest parliamentary level. Hanna Hopko informed Mr. Rahimpour that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is expecting a visit to Ukraine of the Speaker of Iranian Majlis (the Parliament) Ali Larijani whenever convenient to him.

Ebrahim Rahimpour thanked for the invitation and promised to hand it over to the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament. The sides noted the necessity for further deepening of Ukrainian-Iranian interparliamentary relations via the groups of friendship: Ukrainian Parliament has already established such a group and the Majlis is about to accomplish the establishment of its own one.

The Committee Chair and the Deputy Minister said that bilateral economic relations are of particular importance today: Ukraine and Iran are interested in cooperation in energy and agricultural sectors, transport, banking, tourism, etc. Simplification of visa issuance by the two countries will also facilitate the development of such cooperation.
