Foreign Affairs Committee members meet with Acting Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Adam J. Szubin

Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Affairs, Hanna Hopko, Committee members - Iryna Lutsenko, Artur Herasymov, Nataliya Katser-Buchkovska, Ostap Yednak and Leonid Yemets, met with Acting Under Secretary of the U.S. Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Adam J. Szubin.

The parties discussed a number of issues related to the sanctions imposed in 2014 by the world community, including the United States, against the Russian Federation for its aggression against Ukraine. The American side assured of its support for further retention of the sanctions against Russia, and expressed readiness to actively cooperate with the EU countries, which had also imposed respective sanctions. The only reason for lifting the sanctions for the United States can be full and absolute implementation of the Minsk accords, restoration of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within internationally recognized borders. According to Mr. Adam J. Szubin, the imposed sanctions have proved their particular effectiveness.

The Acting Under Secretary highly appreciated the success achieved by the Ukrainian Parliament on the way to implementation of the internal reforms. He noted that the Parliament should remain committed to the fighting against corruption, which is a considerable obstacle on the way of reforms implementation in Ukraine.

The meeting participants also discussed some energy security issues, in particular, the implementation of the Russia's Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline project. The parties agreed the intensification of the awareness campaign aimed at informing the Europeans about real aggressive actions of the current Russian regime.
