The special monitoring commission of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on privatization has held a roundtable on "Privatization of Ukrainian oil refineries, consequences and solutions."

The participants in the meeting were people's deputies of Ukraine, heads of oil refineries, employees of the State Property Fund, Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, local self-government bodies from the areas where oil refineries are located, privatization experts, market economy and energy reformation specialists, and public activists.

The participants discussed the reasons for the collapse of the Ukrainian oil refining industry. They noted that after the shift to the Euro-4 and Euro-5 standards, the Ukrainian enterprises failed to compete with similar enterprises in Belarus, Lithuania and Russia.

The roundtable participants presented their recommendations for the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and other state institutions on elaboration of a comprehensive development program for the oil refining sector of Ukraine to deepen state-private partnership in modernization of the Ukrainian oil refineries, improve the tax policy and introduce more flexible taxation of petroleum products.
