On June 21, the European Parliament hosted an extraordinary meeting of the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Association Committee (PAC) with the participation of PAC members, members of LIBE and AFET committees at the European Parliament, rapporteurs of the said committees for Ukrainian visa-free matters, in particular, Mariya Gabriel and Jacek Saryusz-Wolski, representatives of the European Commission and non-government organizations.
The meeting was initiated by PAC co-chairpersons Andrej Plenkovic and Iryna Heraschenko. It was dedicated to the issue of introduction of the visa-free regime for Ukraine. The members of the Ukrainian delegation provided comprehensive information about the success of Ukraine in the implementation of all its obligations within the Visa Liberalisation Action Plan. The Ukrainian delegation pointed out unacceptability of any delay in the introduction of the visa-free regime and insisted on the speediest consideration of the issue in the committees of the European Parliament in July this year.
The members of the Ukrainian delegation also called unacceptable an intention to combine the Ukrainian matter with the visa liberalization issues of Turkey, Kosovo or Georgia. PAC members from the Council of Europe Andrej Plenkovic and Petras Austrevicius stressed the importance of the speediest providing Ukraine with the visa-free regime, which in their opinion would be a real manifestation of solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
