Chairman of the Committee on legislative support of law enforcement Andrii Kozhemiakin met with representatives of the Council of Europe

On June 3 the working meeting was attended by Director of General Directorate of Human Rights and supremacy of Law of Council of Europe Christos Dzhakumopulos, newly appointed Special Representative of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe in Ukraine Regis Brie, newly appointed Chairman of the Office of Council of Europe in Ukraine Morten Enberg, Deputy Head of the Office of Europe Elena Lytvynenko, head of the project "Further support for criminal justice reform in Ukraine" Ketevan Tskhomelidze.

The parties discussed a number of issues related to criminal justice reform. Committee Chairman Andrii Kozhemiakin, in particular, stressed the need for continued cooperation while working on such crucial draft laws as "On amendments to certain legislative acts of Ukraine on introduction of criminal offenses" and "On private detective (search) activity." He also noted the need for amending the Law of Ukraine "On Prosecution" in connection with the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on June 2, 2016 amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine.

The participants discussed the practical application of the provisions of the State Bureau of Investigation, came to mutual opinion retaining to further work on the draft law on the confiscation of unjustified acquired assets and paid particular attention to the new draft law on operational search activities, which will be registered soon.

Special Representative of the Secretary General in Ukraine Regis Brie expressed confidence that the Office of the Council of Europe, and particularly the draft "On further support of criminal justice reform in Ukraine" under the direction of Ketevan Tskhomelidze will  continue to take active participation in the discussion of these laws and provide advice help.

Director of General Directorate of Human Rights and supremacy of Law of Council of Europe Christos Dzhakumopulos informed the meeting that next week the Office of Council of Europe plans to provide their expert opinions to draft laws "On private detective (search) activity" and "On Disciplinary charter of the National police of Ukraine."

The next consultative meeting devoted to the discussion of the draft law "On amendments to some legislative acts of Ukraine on introduction of criminal offenses" is scheduled for mid-July 2016.
