"As members of the inter-parliamentary group of friendship Ukraine-Italy we are interested in deepening cooperation with Italian counterparts. For the purpose, together with department of international relations of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the inter-parliamentary relations Chamber of Deputies of Italy, we have prepared a draft Memorandum of Cooperation, which was discussed during our visit to Rome ", - said Serhii Alekseev.
Deputy noted that the format of inter-parliamentary friendship groups of the Chamber of Deputies of Italy differs from Verkhovna Rada’s one. As a rule, Italian friendship group consists of 4-5 deputies, each of which is assigned with a separate line of work for which he is responsible and it includes its duties.
"The same format was proposed to us: friendship group Italy-Ukraine in Chamber of Deputies tentatively consist of 5 deputies. In addition, before the creation of this group, we discussed the areas of cooperation that are relevant both for Ukraine and for Italy – they are justice reform, decentralization and fighting corruption ", - he said.
In order to legally formalize cooperation between the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Republic, a Memorandum of Cooperation should be signed by the chairpersons of both parliaments. Tentatively it could happen during the European Conference of chairpersons of parliaments in Strasbourg (France), 15-16 September 2016.
