The Committee also initiated the introduction of a new draft law that will comply with the European legislation and current realities.
This was disclosed by Committee Chairperson Andrii Ivanchuk.
As was noted during the discussion, the matter of improving consumer protection is defined by the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement and the Strategy for Sustainable Development of Ukraine until 2020 and is one of the important priorities of the state policy; public discussion of urgent needs in this system will help to shape a balanced state policy by all branches of the authorities taking in account up-to-date international practices.
The event was attended by representatives of the Financial and Economic Analysis Office under the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (Westminster Foundation for Democracy), the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine.
The participants noted in particular that it is necessary to accelerate finalization of the draft law, which shall include the conceptual grounds of consumer protection, cross provisions to be coordinated with the laws regarding the quality and safety of food and nonfood products, provision of financial services, setting of tariffs for utility services, implementation of control over protection of consumer rights, consideration of cases on consumer protection.
It was noted that the Ministry shall return to the proposals of the round table participants and consider them together with the participants.
