Verkhovna Rada Committee on Fuel and Energy Complex, Nuclear Policy and Nuclear Safety holds round table entitled "Progress of implementation of National Renewable Energy Action Plan till 2020: parliamentary control"

The round table meeting was held under the chairmanship of First Deputy Chairperson of the Committee Oleksandr Dombrovskyi, who drew attention to the need to speed up the development of renewable energy in Ukraine and provided statistics on the development of this sphere in the leading countries. According to him, in the first quarter of 2016 about 1.5 GW of renewable energy facilities were commissioned in the United States. "It's the same as renewable energy facilities have been launched by Ukraine for all years of its independence," A. Dombrovskyi said.

The meeting was addressed by head of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine Serhii Savchuk, who presented the results of the agency's work on the implementation of the National Renewable Energy Action Plan till 2020. He recalled that the main task of the Plan is to reach 11% of energy produced from renewable sources in the total volume of energy consumption of the country in 2020. The Agency head also said that the implementation of the Plan requires about EUR 16 billion of investments. "Drawing of funds into this sphere will mean for Ukraine development of economy, and small and medium business, new jobs, introduction of innovative environmentally friendly technologies, energy decentralization," he stressed.

The event was attended by first Ukrainian winner of the Eurovision song contest (2004) Ruslana Lyzhychko. She inspired the roundtable participants with own experience: "I started green energy from myself, having built my energy-efficient active building where we use solar, wind energy, biomass, and advanced energy-saving technologies."
