Verkhovna Rada Committee on Social Policy, Employment and Pension Provision discusses progress of realization of recommendations on implementation of laws on state social assistance to needy families

The Committee members at the meeting on May 11 discussed the situation with the realization of recommendations of the Committee made following the consideration of the question "On the situation with the implementation of laws of Ukraine "On amendments to Article 5 of the Law of Ukraine "On state social assistance to needy families" touching social protection of children" No.221-VIII of March 2, 2015 and "On amendments to Article 7 of the Law of Ukraine "On state social assistance to needy families" touching social protection of families whose members own or possess land plots" No.454-VIII of May 19, 2015," which was approved by the Committee on December 9, 2015.

Having analyzed information concerning the implementation of the above Recommendations, the Committee members noted that the Cabinet of Ministers and the Ministry of Social Policy have implemented only a part of the Recommendations.

However, Minister of Social Policy A.Reva present at the meeting assured the Committee members that the Ministry of Social Policy will continue taking steps to implement the Committee's Recommendations, including on increasing the level of funding of the cost of living for the appointment of state social assistance to needy families.

Summarizing the discussion First Deputy Chairperson of the Committee Serhii Kaplin said: "In general the Committee together with the Ministry of Social Policy and the Government need to work very hard to find a possibility to significantly increase the size of social standards and social benefits for people who are in difficult life circumstances and need assistance from the state. But at the same time it is unacceptable and must be punished those citizens who have a steady income, but provide false information and receive social assistance. Though, it is necessary to introduce strict liability for such abuses."

Following the discussion, the Committee decided to take note of the information on the situation with the implementation of laws of Ukraine "On amendments to Article 5 of the Law of Ukraine "On state social assistance to needy families" touching social protection of children" No.221-VIII of March 2, 2015 and "On amendments to Article 7 of the Law of Ukraine "On state social assistance to needy families" touching social protection of families whose members own or possess land plots" No.454-VIII of May 19, 2015," and monitor their further implementation.
