On May 5, 1992, people with disabilities from 17 countries simultaneously held the first all-European day of the fight for equal rights and against discrimination of persons with disabilities, the Committee on Affairs of Veterans, Combatants, ATO Participants and Disabled People says. Since then, similar events are held every year.
This day aims to draw attention of the world community to the problems of people with disabilities, every day showing the strength of will and moral courage despite their difficult life.
For Ukraine, the protection of rights of persons with disabilities today is even more important over the events in the east of Ukraine, which resulted in a growth of the number of people with severe injuries and health worsening among the participants in the anti-terrorist operation, and also among the civilians.
The government policy in this field is directed at the reconstruction of the society towards ensuring equal rights and opportunities for people with disabilities. Every person with disabilities should feel protected not only socially, but also being important for the society.
