Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Legal Policy and Justice Serhii Alekseyev visited the United Kingdom where he had several meetings with politicians, public figures and representatives of the business community, and also familiarized himself with the functioning of the Parliament of England.

Serhii Alekseyev said that the Parliament of the UK, whose history dates back for hundreds of years, is a remarkable example for domestic politicians of the state approach, when the interests of the country can not be subverted in favor of someone's personal interests or ambitions. "I think that such a very approach is necessary for Ukraine these days, as the attempts to 'rock the boat' by certain political forces hit the country first of all, causing her serious damage at the global level," he said.

The MP stressed that the countries with developed democracy are characterized by broad public discussion of important topics. Currently for the UK such topic is possible leaving the EU. This is due to the fact that Britain is tired of being the donor of the EU, and because of the constantly growing number of migrants. However, he says, during meetings with the business community of Yorkshire, in order to protect Britain's EU membership the British cited the situation in Ukraine, and emphasized on the importance of preserving collective security system.

"We are grateful for the understanding of the urgency of the situation and for the support, and it is important for us that this problem is topical for the UK, as in fact Russia is fighting not with Ukraine. It is fighting with the entire civilized world, including the EU and the U.S., with Western values ??and democratic principles, which have been built up for centuries, and it is doing this in Ukraine," he said.

In addition, Serhii Alekseyev said that according to many politicians and experts, Britain's EU membership will help maintain not only European values, it will also create opportunities of ??free market for business and guarantees of stability for future generations. And Ukraine also tends to succeed in this process, having signed the Association Agreement with the European Union.

In addition, during his visit to the UK Serhii Alekseyev met with a Yorkshire judge Roger Thomas, and they discussed the matter of functioning of the judicial system and its reform. "Given the fact that exactly the topic of judicial system reform is one of the most urgent on our agenda, the expert opinion of practicing judges and lawyers from different countries is very important for us for making the Ukrainian judicial system maximally effective and productive. I am sure that having analyzed the international experience we'll find the optimal model," he said.

Prior to that, in London Serhii Alekseyev took part in a round table dedicated to Ukraine, which was also attended by members of the House of Lords and the House of Commons. The participants of the event asked about the political situation in Ukraine, the progress of reforms, and short- and long-term plans. The people's deputy informed on Ukraine's fulfillment of the Minsk agreements, making amendments to the Constitution concerning the decentralization and justice as well as on the course of the anti-corruption reform.
