On Tuesday Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oksana Syroyid took part in the presentation of the report "Russian war crimes in Eastern Ukraine," which is the result of an investigation conducted by a group of volunteers leaded by Polish Sejm Member Malgorzata Gosiewska.
"Madam Malgorzata is a person who is concerned about the development of Ukrainian-Polish bilateral relations, and is making sure that the truth about Ukraine and the war of Russia against Ukraine become public, so that it serve our interests and be used to protect Ukraine," O.Syroyid said, opening the event. She said that to "collect and publish such information is a true courage."
The Deputy Chairperson recalled that the report was presented in the European Parliament during the Ukraine Week at the conference "Russian war crimes in Eastern Ukraine."
In her turn Malgorzata Gosiewska stressed that "those who committed crimes must be identified and punished," "they cannot be let to escape a fair trial."
The report shows the war crimes committed in the East and South of Ukraine by servicemen and officials of the Russian Federation, the militants from among Russia-backed separatists. The crimes documented in the report include unlawful imprisonment, physical and mental torture, kidnapping, robbery and murder. The testimony of more than 60 victims was recorded. The names of the victims are not specified for various reasons, they just indicated by number.
On the basis of the evidence papers, described in the report, a notification will be sent to the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
