Meeting with Secretary General of Permanent International Secretariat of Organization of Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) Michael B. Christides in Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on Foreign Affairs

The Ukrainian side at the meeting was represented by Chairperson of the Committee on Foreign Affairs Hanna Hopko, people’s deputies of Ukraine Oleksii Kyrychenko (Radical Party of Oleh Liashko), Serhii Kunitsyn and Andrii Hordeyev (Petro Poroshenko Bloc), and Olena Masorina (People’s Front).

At the beginning of the meeting its participants expressed particular interest in continuing active development of interstate dialogue in the framework of the BSEC on the matters, in which Ukraine has a special interest. Among these priority directions they noted realization of an ambitious project for the construction of the Black Sea circumferential highway in the territories of the BSEC participating States.

M.Christides noted that in the course of the realization of this project, the BSEC undoubtedly stands on the position of respect for the territorial integrity of Ukraine and respect for its internationally recognized borders, and considers that the Autonomous Republic of Crimea is an integral part of Ukraine. During the meeting, BSEC Secretary General also said that our country should to the full extent use institutional capacities of the Organization in order to find answers to the challenges and threats Ukraine has faced recently.

In this context M.Christides assured the Ukrainian side of the readiness to provide Ukraine with all necessary support for the successful solving of complex international issues.

People's deputies of Ukraine informed M.Christides of the development of political processes in our country, having made an emphasis on the formation of the new parliamentary coalition and a new composition of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. The Ukrainian side expressed interest in intensification of the attraction of resource capacities of the BSEC, in particular of the Black Sea Trade and Development Bank, for carrying out urgent internal reforms in our country.
