On Friday, Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman had a meeting with representatives of relevant ministries and parliamentary committees to discuss currents problems in the agricultural sector and possible ways to reform it.
"We have to give an answer to the question how to support the farmers, agrarians through the application of modern mechanisms that would not contradict our international obligations. We have to solve the issue on the one hand and on the other hand we have to offer brand new mechanisms of stimulating the agricultural sector," Groysman said.
The participants in the meeting were First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Ya.Krasnopolskyi, director of the department for financial-credit policy of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food B.Akhidzhanov, Deputy Minister of Finance / Head of the Ministry Secretariat O.Makarova, Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Taxation and Customs Policy N.Yuzhanina and Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Agrarian Policy and Land Relations T.Kutovyi.
Besides, the parties in the meeting also discussed the issues of taxation, compensations, certification of products, support to exporters, as well as the draft laws able to solve important issues the sector is facing today.
The participants in the meeting noted the potential of Ukraine as a supplier of organic products and importance of assistance for small and mid-sized farms. "We have to create infrastructure for effective operation of small-sized farms," Groysman noted.
The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada also said that currently Ukraine needs a strategic approach to elaboration of the plan for the changes in the agricultural sector. Groysman noted that the decisions taken during the meeting would have to be discussed at an extended meeting with the sector representatives.
