Today, Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Human Rights, National Minorities and Interethnic Relations Hryhorii Nemyria had a meeting with representatives of the European Union Advisory Mission Ukraine (EUAM Ukraine) Human Rights and Minorities Adviser Maura Morandi, Parliamentary Liaison / Civil Society Advisor Dace Lukumiete, civil society manager Oleksandra Zub.
The Parties discussed the situation in Ukraine, having specially focused on the problems of rights and freedoms of the Ukrainian citizens.
Maura Morandi informed Hryhorii Nemyria about the work of the mission in Ukraine including the cooperation with the bodies of state power and non-government organizations.
The Parties also discussed the alternative draft laws on peaceful gatherings registered at the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. Hryhorii Nemyria noted that before consideration of those legislative acts by the Ukrainian Parliament, it needs respective conclusions from the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission). He offered the mission to hold a joint roundtable on the basis of the Committee to discuss this issue.
In turn Maura Morandi noted that "legislative regulation in this field will facilitate democratic development in Ukraine."
Besides, they discussed the preparation for the parliamentary hearings entitled "Status of protection of rights of internally displaced persons and citizens of Ukraine living on temporarily occupied territories" and scheduled for February 17.
