On December 10 members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs met with newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Libya in Ukraine Mohamed Salah Eddin Nureddin Shelli.
The meeting was attended by Chairperson of the Committee Hanna Hopko, First Deputy Chairperson Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze and committee member Serhii Larin.
At the meeting the Ukrainian party thanked Libya for the continued support of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, and expressed the need for further intensification of the inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries in political, economic and humanitarian levels. In this regard, the two sides reaffirmed their mutual interest in the establishment in the framework of the parliaments of Ukraine and Libya of friendship groups, which should become effective platforms for development of comprehensive inter-parliamentary dialogue. It was agreed to organize visits of parliamentarians of Libya to Ukraine and people's deputies of Ukraine to Libya in the near future.
People's deputies of Ukraine also informed in detail the Libyan side on the state and prospects of the implementation of internal reforms in our country, and special emphasis was made on the elaboration and adoption of a package of draft laws allowing our country to confidently proceed on its European integration path.
At the meeting particular attention was also paid to the intensification of cooperation in the economic sphere as the potential of cooperation between Ukrainian and Libyan business entities has not been exhausted. The parties also agreed on the need for more detailed consideration of the issues connected with travels of Libyan citizens to our State.
