Co-Chairperson of Ukraine-Italy Interparliamentary Friendship Group Serhii Alekseyev takes part in official opening of monument to prominent Italian poet and politician Dante Alighieri

Official opening of the monument to the prominent Italian poet and politician Dante Alighieri was held at the Saint Volodymyr Hill in Kyiv. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, Ambassador of Italy to Ukraine Fabrizio Romano, and Co-Chairperson of the Interparliamentary Friendship Group Ukraine-Italy Serhii Alekseyev participated in the event.

"Today we officially opened the monument to the great poet Dante Alighieri. This is a very important event, because cultural ties between the countries is a basis for close economic cooperation. I am grateful to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko and Ambassador of Italy to Ukraine Fabrizio Romano for active participation in the installment of this monument, as only together we can give new impetus to our interstate relations," Serhii Alekseyev said.

He recalled that the monument to Dante Alighieri was installed in the framework of the intergovernmental Ukrainian-Italian project, which foresees that the monument to the great Ukrainian Kobzar Taras Shevchenko will be erected in Italy.

"Ukraine has chosen the path of European integration, which can not be completed without cultural exchange with European countries. Italy has invaluable and diverse cultural heritage - this is the jewel in the crown of not only Europe! In fact, Italian culture is a world heritage," he said.
Serhii Alekseyev expressed confidence that there are a lot of important events in the future, which will strengthen friendship of our countries, and he as the Chairperson of the Interparliamentary Group of Friendship Ukraine-Italy will do his utmost for this.
