"I am confident it's high time to introduce major values in the education system," Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oksana Syroyid said at the opening of the parliamentary hearings entitled "Legal support of education reform in Ukraine."
"State's attitude to education shows its attitude to its future — children. We have lived 25 years in the state that called itself to be democratic, however, we still do not have proper relations between the state and the society in the field of education," the speaker said.
According to Syroyid, the essence of today's education was formed in soviet times, thus, it needs reformation.
"We have always been thinking that education should give basic knowledge and skills. However, modern education has to start with the formation of values — values of human dignity, values of respect to person, values of relations between people, statehood, citizenship. It is high time to introduce these values to education system," Syroyid said.
