Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopts as a basis draft law "On amendments to Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine (as to improving of conditions for holding prisoners)"

The draft law proposes to amend 17 articles of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

In particular, the draft law proposes to give the right to convicted persons to short-term meetings with relatives or other persons less presence of a prison officer, excluding in exceptional cases; specify the number and the format of the meetings; remove provisions envisaging that convicted persons held in a disciplinary isolation ward and taken out for work, in a premises of the ward-type (separate cell) should work separately from other convicts; clarify the provisions on medical and sanitary support of convicts, order of correspondence, telephone conversations; applying for a pardon by persons convicted to life imprisonment after serving by them of at least 15 years of their sentence, etc.
