Verkhovna Rada adopts draft law on overseas broadcast system of Ukraine as a basis

The draft law No. 2334a envisions creation of legal grounds for organization and operation of state multimedia company engaged in overseas broadcast to spread actual, objective information about events in Ukraine, to present official position of our state on the most important issues of internal and international life, satisfy the needs of multimillion Ukrainian Diaspora, open Ukrainian culture to the world, present Ukraine as an attractive destination for tourism.

The document contains provisions envisaging the establishment of Ukraine Tomorrow overseas broadcast company of Ukraine to satisfy information needs of the Ukrainians living abroad, protect national interests abroad, form and support positive image of Ukraine through objective coverage of the latest events in Ukraine, official internal and foreign policy and the official position of the state.

The Company is established in a form of a state-run enterprise on the basis of the Ukrainian Television and Radio state-run TV and radio company and the Bank Television (Ukraine) limited liability company. It reports to the central executive body engaged in protection of information sovereignty of Ukraine.

The list of expected tasks of the Company:

1) objective, full, timely and unbiased promulgation of important events in Ukraine;

2) information support of Ukrainians staying abroad;

3) provision of a platform for worldwide discussion of the official position of Ukrainian state bodies on important topics, first of all in the fields of politics, culture and economy;

4) balanced and transparent access of sociopolitical, cultural and economic life subjects to TV debates;

5) facilitation of Ukrainian and foreign societies consolidation;

6) sufficient, comprehensive information assistance in the process of Ukraine's integration with the European Union and Euro-Atlantic security structures;

7) development and consolidation of status of Ukrainian culture, assistance in development of languages and cultures of national minorities;

8) facilitation of most comprehensive satisfaction of informational, cultural and educational needs of the foreign audience;

9) provision of the audience with required information products;

10) assistance in further consolidation of international image of Ukraine and growth of its investment attractiveness.
