Leadership of Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Affairs meets with OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine Vaidotas Verba

On October 26, leadership of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Affairs had a working meeting with OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine Vaidotas Verba on his request.

At the meeting, Ukraine was represented by Chairperson of the Committee Hanna Hopko, First Deputy Chairperson of the Committee Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze, people's deputies Svitlana Zalischuk and Viktor Romaniuk.

The meeting participants discussed general issues of functioning of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Ukraine. The Mission aims to help our state to enhance its security and improve the legislation, institutions and practices in compliance with standards of this international organization.

The parties also discussed the status and prospects of implementation of projects in the field of mine-sweeping with the assistance of the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine, in particular, the implementation of mine-sweeping project — one of the top-priority projects in practical overcoming of consequences of Russian Federation's aggression against Ukraine.

According to the Secretariat of the Committee, particular attention was paid to the project of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine and the State Emergency Situations Service of Ukraine entitled "Assistance in responding to pollution with explosive remnants of war and remnants of propellant fuel components."

The OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine informed about the activity in the mine-sweeping campaign in the east of Ukraine. He said the OSCE conducted educational program for mine-pickers, elaborated materials for the awareness campaign for schoolchildren on risks related to improper handling of explosives.
