The event was headed by the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Public Health, Head of the Interfaction Deputy Association for Prophylactics and fight against non-communicable diseases Oleh Musii.
The participants of the event where Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine Shafranskyi, senior freelance specialists of the Health Ministry of Ukraine engaged in the issues of nutritional science, gastroenterology, food hygiene; other leading scientists in the discussed field, representatives of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, World Health Organization Bureau office in Ukraine, representatives of higher medical education establishments, professional medical associations, international and national experts engaged in nutrition problems, etc.
The participants of the roundtable noted that in 2015, Ukraine started to implement the national plan of measures on implementation and realization of the program of the European Union entitled European Health Strategy 2020 that touches non-communicable diseases. It's integral element are the measures that improve nutrition of the Ukrainian population.
The roundtable also discussed major strategic trends in prophylactics of non-communicable diseases as the major element in the structure of premature aging, disability and death rate of the population, as well as the factors of the risk of their spread, issues of monitoring of the most spread diseases in Ukraine and all over the world, multi-sector approach and the role of non-government organizations in prevention of such diseases, etc.
All the participants of the hearings noted considerable spread of non-communicable diseases and the critical states among the Ukraine population conditioned by irrational nutrition. They also pointed to an important role of healthy nutrition in prophylactics of non-communicable diseases.
The roundtable participants also noted the importance of multi-sector approach in prophylactics of non-communicable diseases, enhancement of scientific and awareness element in this field to facilitate the implementation of principles of the European Health Strategy 2020 in Ukraine; minimization of impact of factors of risk of emergence of the most spread non-communicable diseases in Ukraine and all over the world; creation of environment favorable for health; stimulation of adherence to the principles of healthy way of life; monitoring prevention and early diagnosis of non-communicable diseases, etc.
As a result of the roundtable the participants decided to create a workgroup to elaborate legislative proposals on regulation of marketing of foodstuffs with considerable contents of sugar, fats and salt aimed at children and teenagers as well as legislative regulation of contents of trans fats in foodstuffs.
