The hearings participants' attention was paid to the status of implementation of provisions of the Law of Ukraine "On condemnation of communist and national-socialist (nazi) totalitarian regimes in Ukraine and the ban on propaganda of their symbols."
In particular, they paid attention to the problem of preservation of the art works of the totalitarian period.
Participants of the hearings were representatives of executive bodies, scientists, artists, and members of the public.
Chairperson of the Committee Mykola Kniazhytskyi pointed out the importance of studying experience of countries of the post-socialistic space to settle the problem of preservation of works of art of the totalitarianism.
The head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance Volodymyr Viyatrovych told the participants of the hearings about the peculiarities of implementing provisions of the Law of Ukraine "On condemnation of communist and national-socialist (nazi) totalitarian regimes in Ukraine and ban on propaganda of their symbols." He supported the idea of the Committee to open museums (parks) dedicated to the soviet totalitarian regime.
First Deputy Culture Minister Ihor Likhovyi informed about the steps undertaken by the ministry in that field, in particular, about the work of the expert commission under the ministry for assessment of art value of articles created in soviet times. The commission is formed of art experts, sculptors, artists, architects, and specialists engaged in protection of cultural heritage.
The participants of the hearings also expressed their opinion as to the expediency of dismantling of numerous monuments of the soviet times.
Vice-principal of the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture Ostap Kovalchuk informed the participants of the hearings about the ways of possible use of international and European experience by our specialists.
The people's deputies/members of the Committee called for the speediest adoption of a number of bylaws to properly implement the provisions of said Law of Ukraine.
