Verkhovna Rada Committee for State Building, Regional Policy and Local Self-Government recommends Ukrainian Parliament return for adaptation draft resolution "On naming square near Kyiv Central Post Office as Dignity and Freedom square"

The draft law No. 2237 contains recommendations to Kyiv city mayor as to approval of the order aimed at organization of public hearings entitled "Naming of square near Kyiv Central Post Office as Dignity and Freedom square" and to initiate consideration of respective proposal at the Kyiv city council. According to author of the initiative such a renaming will allow eternalize memory about confrontation between the Ukrainian people and criminal corrupt regime during the period between November 2013 and February 2014.

Members of the Committee noted that imperative regulation of respective issue by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is not in line with the Law of Ukraine "On local self-government in Ukraine," under which elaboration and submission of issues on naming (renaming) streets, lanes, avenues, squares, parks, bridges and other constructions located on the territory of respective settlement for consideration by respective council lies in exclusive competence of executive bodies of village, town and city councils.
