Permanent delegation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the Parliamentary Assembly of NATO headed by people's deputy Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze took part in the session of the Assembly in Budapest (Hungary) on May 15-18, 2015.
The work of the forum that united over 400 parliamentarians from almost 50 countries consisted of a plenary meeting and meetings of six committees of the Assembly. In the frames of the meeting over 15 topical reports on key issues of the NATO activity were considered.
Significant part of the eyed topics was of particular interest for Ukraine as it touched upon the situation in Ukraine.
The Assembly approved the Declaration "On NATO enlargement" expressing its support to aspirations of a number of states to receive membership of the Alliance. The Ukrainian delegation initiated, which was supported by Britain, Canada, Turkey, Lithuania, Poland, Latvia and Sweden, the introduction of amendments into the text of the Declaration to draw attention to NATO ambitions of Ukraine. Therefore, the Assembly acknowledged official resumption of Ukraine's NATO aspirations and called on its Parliament and the Government to do their best to reform the country bringing it in line with democratic Euro-Atlantic terms.
