ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 16, THE VERKHOVNA RADA OF UKRAINE CONTINUED ITS PLENARY WORK.
Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, opened the meeting, and reported on the results of work of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine at the plenary meetings on March 15.
The parliamentarians scrutinized the draft resolution on terminating violation of constitutional rights of the citizens of Ukraine who were arrested or detained after the protests on Maidan Nezalezhnosti square in Kyiv on part of the officials of law-enforcement agencies and heads of the central executive bodies. Author of the resolution Oleh Liashko, People´s Deputy of Ukraine, doubted that the resolution would be adopted, as "the parliamentary majority does not represent the public interests."
Volodymyr Stretovych, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Legislative Support of Law Enforcement, reported on the Committee´s decision to recommend the Verkhovna Rada to adopt the draft resolution in entirety.
The Verkhovna Rada rejected the draft resolution.
The bill on amendments to the Law "On State Tax Service in Ukraine" (re tax police service) was presented by Serhii Vlasenko, People´s Deputy of Ukraine.
Andrii Pinchuk, Chairman of the Committee on Finance and Banking, Taxation and Customs Policy, reported on the Committee´s decision to recommend the Parliament to reject this bill.
Representative of the Committee on Legislative Support of Law Enforcement Viktor Shemchuk announced the decision to recommend the Parliament to adopt the bill as a basis.
The bill was rejected.
The Chairman announced that People´s Deputies of Ukraine Stepan Hlus, Oleksandr Feldman and Anton Yatsenko joined the Party of Regions faction on the grounds of their personal appeals.
The following bills were rejected: on amendments to clause 166-5 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Infringements (re security of bank deposits); on amendments to the Law "On the Standing Orders of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine" (re support and protection of the democratic principles of activity of the parliamentary minority); on amendments to several legislative acts of Ukraine (re transparent administration of budget funds and the funds of state-owned and municipal economic entities); on amendments to several legislative acts of Ukraine (re extra guarantees of realization of the rights of the territorial communities in the representative local self-government bodies).
The parliament members scrutinized several bills suggested for putting on the agenda. None of 13 bills was put on the agenda.
People´s Deputy Natalia Korolevska presented the draft resolution on setting up an Interim Inquiry Panel of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to investigate the facts of persecution of the participants of protest actions against adoption of the Tax Code. The resolution was rejected.
Parliamentary hearings "Current State and Priority Tasks on the Overcoming of Consequences of Chornobyl Disaster" have been held at The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine since 15.00.
The next plenary meeting of the eighth session will be held on Thursday, 17 March.
