Address of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmytro Razumkov on the occasion of the Day of Victory over Nazism in the Second World War

Dear Ukrainians!

World War II did leave deep wounds in the history of every Ukrainian family. It is from the cradle that many remember the stories of how our grandparents desperately fought for freedom and the right to live freely in their native land.

Their memories of the war and their everyday short steps towards the victory all are of special value to us, as they are so reminiscent of the horrors of war and the importance of maintaining peace.

Most likely, there’s scarcely a family in Ukraine where the older generation would not take part in this epical struggle.

After the losses inflicted by the Second World War, it seemed that humanity ought to have changed for good and all and have grasped the true price to be paid for any act of war, but, unfortunately, even today our state is constrained to fight for its freedom.

On this day, I would like to sincerely thank and give a low bow to all those who liberated their homelands and brought peace to Europe.

On this day, we honour the heroes who ended the war. They went through unhuman trials, gave their lives and health for the sake of a victory for justice.

We send today our boundless gratitude to World War II veterans.  In loving memory of the fallen.

Happy Victory Day, Ukraine!
