“We must remember thanks to whom we are able today to communicate freely and live in our native land,” -- Dmytro Razumkov

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmytro Razumkov paid tribute to the memory of those killed during the Second World War. The First Deputy Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk and chairmen of parliamentary committees also took part in the flower-laying ceremony at the Memorial of Eternal Glory at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

"Victory Day is, on the one hand, a holiday, and on the other - a good reminder of the lessons of history and those people who have done so much that we can speak today openly and honestly and live in our homeland. Some people gave their lives for this, some – health and many long years of restoring the country after the war," the speaker of parliament said.

History should remain history regardless of political visions, and everyone ought to remember those positive and negative, sometimes terrible, lessons that it brought, Dmytro Razumkov stressed.

"People should not rewrite history - they should write it.  If we want to move forward, we must keep in mind the historical events and milestones which the state got through," the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine accentuated.
