Serhii Ionushas, Chairman of the Committee on Law Enforcement, alongside First Deputy Chairman Andrii Osadchuk and Deputy Chairmen Maksym Pavliuk and Hryhoriy Mamka, participated in discussions on legislative reform aimed at implementing the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court in Ukraine.
The discussion was supported by the International Development Law Organization (IDLO).
The event was held to facilitate an expert discussion involving Ukrainian stakeholders on the draft legislative amendments aimed at implementing the Rome Statute of the ICC into Ukrainian legislation, as well as to coordinate further steps regarding the registration of the bill.
During the discussion, attention focused on the proposed amendments to Articles 437 and 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, with a particular emphasis on the codification of war crimes into a definitive catalog and their corresponding sanctions.
Following the event, participants are expected to reach an agreement on institutional coordination and further procedural steps for registering the bill. This will also foster enhanced dialogue between Ukrainian government authorities, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, civil society, and international partners.
The discussion was joined by People’s Deputies of Ukraine, senior leadership from the Office of the President of Ukraine and the Office of the Prosecutor General, international experts from the Atrocity Crimes Advisory Group (ACA) for Ukraine, legal scholars, and civil society representatives.
