Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov met with President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE Ilkka Kanerva within the framework of his official visit to the Kingdom of Norway.

In the course of the meeting, the Parties discussed current developments in Ukraine, particularly, aggression of the Russian Federation against our country.

According to Oleksandr Turchynov, despite claims of the Russian Federation regarding the cease-fire regime on the territory of Ukraine, shelling of the positions of the Ukrainian military continues. “Despite statements that they withdraw their subdivisions, a great number of the military and the entire arsenal of weapons remains on the territory of Ukraine,” said Chairperson of the Parliament.

That is why, according to him, our country requires the assistance of observation missions, particularly, the OSCE in the part of a permanent control over the withdrawal of Russian troops and weapons, as well as over “the strict monitoring of the border.” “Without this, implementation of the peace plan would be impossible,” explained Oleksandr Turchynov.

“Stopping aggression of the Russian Federation is a guarantee of restoring stability in Europe,” claimed Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada.

As informed earlier, Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov pays an official visit to the Kingdom of Norway with a view to participate in the European Conference of Presidents of Parliaments.

Under the programme of the visit, Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Turchynov shall deliver the speech to the participants of the Conference within the framework of the discussion "Democracy, Sovereignty, and Security in Europe", and shall meet with leaders of international parliamentary organizations and parliaments of European countries.
