Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov met with PACE President Anne Brasseur in the course of his official visit to the Kingdom of Norway (Oslo).
During the meeting the Parties discussed issues regarding Russia’s
aggression against our country. According to Oleksandr Turchynov, this is a crucial moment now. “Russia aims not at reaching peace in Ukraine but at destabilizing situation. However, there is the possibility to force Russia to stop its aggression. That is why it is important to continue exerting pressure on Russia until all Russian weapons and its military men are withdrawn from the territory of Ukraine, and until all the provocations and shelling of out territory is stopped and strict control on the Ukrainian-Russian border is resumed.”
Thereat, according to him, the Russian Party and its affiliated terrorist groups are now the one who constantly keep breaking the seize-fire agreement, trying to disrupt the peace plan for settling the conflict.
Apart from this, Chairperson of the Parliament stressed the importance of continuing monitoring missions of international observers over the situation.
The interlocutors attached attention to the upcoming parliamentary elections and reforming the Ukrainian legislation.
According to Oleksandr Turchynov, our country requires "rebooting the government"
He expressed conviction that elections “will be held in a fair and transparent manner, without using administrative pressure.”
On her part, Anne Brasseur stressed that PACE will further support Ukraine and she is ready to provide our country with all-round support in reforming the national legislation.
As informed earlier, Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov pays an official visit to the Kingdom of Norway with a view to participate in the European Conference of Presidents of Parliaments.
Under the programme of the visit, Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Turchynov shall deliver the speech to the participants of the Conference within the framework of the discussion "Democracy, Sovereignty, and Security in Europe", and shall meet with leaders of international parliamentary organizations and parliaments of European countries.
