Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov stresses that the government will do everything to hold fair and transparent parliamentary elections on the whole territory of Ukraine.
In an interview to "channel 5" Oleksandr Turchynov expressed hope that in October "there will be either no military actions on the territory of Donbas or they will be minimized".
"Regarding the ATO area, I hope that in October there will be either no military actions on the territory of Donbas or they will be minimized", he stressed.
He also informed that the Parliament is preparing for consideration "changes to electoral legislation" which will help "change configuration of constituencies so that district committees will have a chance to work, and citizens – a chance to vote" on the territories where military actions may be conducted.
Speaking about voting in Crimea, Oleksandr Turchynov claimed "this is a quite complicated issue". He reminded that the law on the occupied territory does not stipulate holding elections during the occupation. Moreover, he explained that today "50% of the Parliament will be elected according to party lists, and "proportional component of a mixed system will represent all regions, including Crimea".
Oleksandr Turchynov said that "in case elections are not held in some majority constituencies, constitutional majority of the Parliament will work and this is the main feature of efficiency of the Verkhovna Rada".
