On August 23 President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov, and Prime-Minister of Ukraine Arsenii Yatseniuk participated in the ceremonial raising of the National Flag of Ukraine on Sophia Square in Kyiv.

The Head of State, Leaders of the Parliament and of the Government, Chair of Kyiv City State Administration Vitalii Klychko, people's deputies of Ukraine, and governmental officials also participated in a prayer for Ukraine which primates of Ukrainian churches had in St. Sophia Cathedral.

The National Flag Day is celebrated in Ukraine on August 23. This holiday was established by the Presidential Decree of August 23, 2004.
