Not merely the fate of Ukraine but the fate of the European security system is being decided now. This was announced by Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Turchynov answering questions during a joint press conference of Parliamentary Speakers of the Nordic and Baltic Countries on August 17-19 (Palanga, the Republic of Lithuania) on Monday.
In words of Oleksandr Turchynov, a compromise with an aggressor "has never led to anything good". "Today some European countries are hoping to pacify the aggressor. However, the World War II started with such an attempt", he stressed.
The Chairperson of the Parliament added that it is questionable whether the European Union will be able to protect itself from the aggressive policy of Russia. "Ukraine is ready to do this but we lack weapons", claimed Oleksandr Turchynov, adding that our country hopes for such military and technical assistance. "As Ukraine is protecting not merely itself but the whole security system in Europe as well", he added.
The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada claimed that unless Russia stops aggression against Ukraine, this war will continue regardless of horrible victims. "Every day we lose tens of our citizens. Every day the infrastructure of the East is being ruined," said Oleksandr Turchynov. "However, Russia can not bring us to our knees and return us to the post-Soviet empire. I believe that without Ukraine this empire will be ruined, and Ukraine has already made its choice".
As it was informed earlier, Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Turchynov will participate in the Conference of Parliamentary Speakers of the Nordic and Baltic Countries on August 17-19 (Palanga, the Republic of Lithuania).
