The Parties discussed the issue of European integration of our country and cooperation between Ukraine and Latvia on the parliamentary level.
“We deem Your visit to be a symbolic one, since it takes place almost right after signing of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU, and next year there will be held Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga,’ stressed Hryhorii Nemyria.
“We are grateful to the Latvian Saeima and Your Committee for consistent support of our people during Euromaidan.”
“Latvia was and remains Ukraine’s friend in the EU. We support You on the way towards European integration. During its presidency in the EU next year, Latvian Saeima will do its best to implement Ukraine’s European prospective,” said Zanda Kalnina-Lukasevica.
It also went about the situation in Ukraine and the issues connected with Russian aggression against our country.
“On behalf of our Committee, I would like to support Ukraine, its sovereignty and territorial integrity. We condemn Russia’s aggressive actions and express our condolences to the bereaved families in the East of Ukraine,” stressed Chairperson of the Committee of Latvian Saeima.
The issue of
ratification and implementation of economic part of the EU-Ukraine Association
Agreement was separately discussed, as well as the steps that need to be taken for
further liberalization of visa regime between the EU and Ukraine and the
prospects of introduction of visa-free regime.
In connection with this, Zanda Kalnina-Lukasevica informed that Latvian Saeima plans to ratify the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement in the nearest time.
Hryhorii Nemyria underlined that the European Integration Committee calls on the President Poroshenko to refer ratification of the Association Agreement with the EU to the Verkhovna Rada as soon as possible, and the Parliament – to vote on the document this plenary week already.
