Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Koshulynskyi met with the Georgian delegation headed by the State Minister of Georgia on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Alex Petriashvili.

R.Koshulynskyi noted that partnership dialogue between Ukraine and Georgia now possesses stable and consistent features. According to him, “Ukraine felt Georgia’s support from the first moments of Maidan.” “In the course of events that returned Ukraine to a different life, we felt Georgia’s support that helped us withstand and win in the Revolution of Dignity. Historic fates of our people are quite similar. We are both on a post-colonial path and we both learn how to make steps in the direction of development of our countries,” said the Ukrainian politician. According to him, “today Ukraine follows the experience of Georgia on the way to European integration and development of a new state.”

Within the framework of discussion, the Parties discussed the issue of interstate Ukrainian-Georgian relations and reaffirmed topicality of their further deepening on the basis of commitment to general European values. They stressed their interest in activation of parliamentary component of interstate cooperation.  

Discussing the issue of cooperation in the format of international organizations, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada stressed that on its way to Euro-Atlantic integration Ukraine relies on the support of Georgia. Thereat, he expressed gratitude to the Georgian Party for timely activation of efficient steps in this direction, as soon as military opposition in several Ukrainian oblasts began.  

Commenting on the Ukrainian realia, R.Koshulynskyi informed members of the Georgian delegation about Ukrainian present-day priorities, which lie in implementing major reforms for the sake of country’s modernization. The results of presidential elections have undoubtedly reaffirmed Ukraine’s unity in choosing the European future, he said. He believes that these elections have demonstrated that Ukraine has chosen the democratic way of development and sovereignty.

Also within the framework of the meeting the Parties discussed the issue on cooperation in the investment sphere. In words of R. Koshulynskyi, “today Ukraine has created a comfortable climate for investors and invites partners to cooperation”. The Parties agreed that for both countries it can be an efficient and promising form of cooperation in view of the available potential”.    

In the course of conversation, State Minister of Georgia on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Alex Petriashvili stressed that Georgia, as every democratic state, will never recognize annexation of Crimea, and supports territorial integrity of Ukraine within its borders determined and established within the framework of international legal field. He positively estimated political processes happening in Ukraine, and expressed hope that democratic transformations in our country will continue. The Georgian official also confirmed his country’s aspirations to promote reforms in Ukraine and strengthening of its democracy. A. Petriashvili noted that he is authorized to announce official Tbilisi’s vision on Ukrainian present times. “Firstly, successful presidential elections are a very important step towards stabilization in Ukraine. Secondly, Georgia will never recognize annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation. Thirdly, Georgia will always support Ukraine in the issue of territorial integrity of the state and will celebrate with the Ukrainian people signing of the EU Association Agreement. Fourthly, Georgia hopes that situation in the east of Ukraine will normalize, and the Anti-terrorist operation will be successfully completed”, stated Georgian official, and added “Russia will not defeat Ukraine. Ukraine will be an independent powerful state which will fill a decent place on the world map and will become an influential player in the international security system”.          

During the conversation, R. Koshulynskyi and A. Petriashvili stressed the importance of continuing the dialogue between the countries at the highest level.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Ukraine Mikheil Ukleba participated in the meeting.
