The legislative act determines legal and organizational basis for national standardization aimed at its compliance with the European model, and create a single national body of standardization.
The law empowers the national body of standardization with the following authority: organization and coordination of activity in the sphere of standardization; approving standardization programme, adopting and canceling national standards (including, those in the construction sphere), creating and terminating activity of technical committees on standardization, representing interests of Ukraine in international and regional organizations of standardization, and cooperation with national bodies of standardization of other countries.
With a view to improve legal and organizational basis of national standardization, the law introduces two levels of standardization depending on the subject of standardization.
