Acting President of Ukraine, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov met with Presidents of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk and Leonid Kuchma, upon their initiative.
In the course of meeting, Presidents of Ukraine expressed full support of new Ukrainian government and its first steps in “extremely difficult and dramatic times in Ukrainian history”.
According to them, military aggression and an attempt of annexation of the Crimean peninsula by the Russian Federation Armed Forces are unacceptable.
“Never, even in a nightmare could I have thought that I would live to the time when Russian troops would be occupying the Crimea”, said L.Kuchma.
Moreover, both Presidents opposed separatist attempts and provocations “that were conducted in some Ukrainian regions.”
In their words, the government should fight crimes against the state, its sovereignty and territorial integrity more harshly and uncompromisingly.
Apart from this, Presidents of Ukraine L.Kravchuk and L.Kuchma requested Oleksandr Turchynov to “protect and preserve lives of Ukrainian military men serving under difficult and dangerous circumstances in the Crimea”.
They claim it is necessary to urgently relocate them to the mainland of Ukraine.
