The new Ukrainian authority aspires to build the state, where not only Ukrainians would like to live in. Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the acting President of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov said this in an interview to the US TV channel NBC.
“We have the only country and we all bear responsibility for it,” claimed Oleksandr Turchynov. “We want to build a truly democratic state in which everyone would feel him/herself a free person despite the place of residence – in the East, in the West, in the South or in the North,” he added.
According to Oleksandr Turchynov, “our choice lies in refusing from the imposed stereotype of a half-totalitarian country. “We want to establish effective standards of a civilized country. We want that not only Ukrainians but people from across the world would like to live in Ukraine,” he stressed.
Oleksandr Turchynov noted that aggression on the part of Russia has prevented stabilization in the country. Thereat, he stressed that aggressive actions of the Russian Federation on the Crimean peninsula aim at destabilizing situation in our country. “They have seized strategic objects, particularly, the Parliament and Crimean Government. Today, the decisions proclaimed in Crimea are being proclaimed at gun points,” he noted.
Thereat, the Chairman of the Parliament reminded that in 1994, Ukraine has unilaterally refused from using nuclear weapon and the USA, the Great Britain and Russia were the guarantors of independence of our country. “I am convinced that such great countries will meet their commitments. We hope for the support of our strategic partners from the European Union,” he said, expressing conviction that “the civilized world will not leave Ukraine alone with the aggressor.”
Oleksandr Turchynov claimed steadfastness of Ukraine’s European aspirations. The Chairman of the Parliament noted that Ukrainian people are “the single family and we have serious prospects of being in the family of European countries.”
