On Monday during a briefing, acting President of Ukraine, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Turchynov claimed that Ukraine and the Council of Europe will act jointly on blocking Russia’s aggression. According to him, this was agreed upon during negotiations with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland and Federal Minister for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs of Austria Sebastian Kurz as Chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada claimed that “the issue of Ukraine is one of the most important in the world today.”
He said that visits of high-ranking officials of the Council of Europe helped us plan joint steps in the direction of blocking aggression of the Russian Federation that is carrying out serious propaganda work and is based on biased and distorted information about developments in Ukraine. Oleksandr Turchynov informed that “there is an attempt to mislead both the Russian citizens and citizens of other countries about legitimacy of Ukrainian government regarding developments in Crimea, particularly, a false referendum that they are trying to organize, speaking more accurately – to fabricate.”
