On Friday Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Rybak met with representatives of the “First of December” initiative group – Ukrainian scientists Myroslav Popovych and Viacheslav Briukhovetskyi on their request.

During the meeting, ways of overcoming the crisis, and ways of finding a compromise between political forces and all Parties were discussed.

Volodymyr Rybak informed that another meeting with the factions’ representatives has just ended, and said that the opposition factions’ representatives “have again showed uncertainty of their stands regarding possible constitutional amendments which would stipulate either presidential-parliamentary or parliamentary-presidential form of governance in the country.” The Chairman of the Parliament stressed that at these meetings he calls the opposition factions’ representatives to determine their stand, and to find a compromise on the issue of agreeing upon the bill on amendments to the Constitution. “The period of deputies’ apprenticeship has long been gone, now it is necessary to discard protests in the session hall and return to a constructive work,” stressed Volodymyr Rybak.

In their turn, V. Briukhovetskyi and M.Popovych gave a document to the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, elaborated by the initiative group, - “National Act of Freedom.” According to them, this is “not a regular document; experts of different fields contributed to its creation – law experts, academicians – in order for the document not to be amateurish.” “The document is more of a political and legal kind, it is a kind of “gentleman” agreement between the MPs,” said V. Briukhovetskyi. According to M.Popovych, the document “has also an ethical feature: it is urgent to draw the line under petty disputes for people to understand the importance of overcoming this crisis and preserving the state.”

Volodymyr Rybak claimed that the draft suggested by the “First of December” initiative group will be given to factions in order for all people’s deputies to get acquainted with it.
