Task of the Thirteenth winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of
the OSCE is discussion of status of implementing resolutions and decisions of
the assembly, as well as holding debates within the framework of three topical
committees: on political issues and security; on economic affairs, science,
technology and environment; on democracy, human rights and humanitarian issues.According to members of the Permanent Delegation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine headed by people’s deputy Oleh Zarubinskyi and consisting of people’s deputies M.Katerynchuk, O.Bondarenko, V.Nakonechnyi, O.Kaletnyk, V.Nalyvaichenko and O.Stoian, parliamentarians also plan to consider topical issues of international policy, particularly, “increase of extremism, radicalism and xenophobia: challenges for the OSCE region,” “parliamentary control over armed and security forces: ensuring transparency at national and international levels,” “cooperation in water management in the OSCE region,” “rule of law in the OSCE region.” Special discussion with participation of three general committees entitled “Current political situation in Ukraine” will also be held.
In the First General Committee on Political Affairs and Security MPs will discuss a topic of parliamentary control over control of armed and security forces: ensuring transparency at national and international levels with participation of the OSCE experts.
Cooperation in water management in the region will be one of the main topics brought up for consideration in the Second Committee on Economic Affairs, Science, Technology and Environment where Coordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities Halil Yurdakul Yigitguden will give a report. The event participants will also grant a hearing to Chairperson of the Economic and Environmental Committee, Permanent Representative of Slovakia to the OSCE to Ol'ga Algayerova.
At the meeting of the Third Committee on Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian Issues an open discussion of the issue on “The rule of law in the OSCE region” with participation of Director of the OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights Janez Lenarcic will be held.
All three general committees will grant a hearing to reports of the deputy chairpersons of the committees connected with implementation of recommendations of the Istanbul Declaration, as well as previous draft reports and resolutions that will be put for consideration at the 23 annual session of the OSCE PA that will be held this year in Baku (the Republic of Azerbaijan).
MPs from 57 countries of Europe and Latin America, as well as representatives from many associated states, international organizations and Mediterranean partners of the OSCE participate in the session.
