Particularly, the staff of the Prosecutor General’s Office informed about carrying out necessary investigatory actions within the framework of the opened criminal proceeding according to the fact of beating journalists on the night of November 29-30, 2013. The speakers expressed their concerns about not bringing to responsibility leaders of subdivisions that traumatized journalists during coverage of Euromaidans.
Participants of the meeting also granted a hearing to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine representative who briefly characterized the status of investigating the attack on the journalist Tetiana Chornovil. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine representative informed the participants of the meeting about different versions of the grounds for committing this crime.
Following the results of the discussion, the Chairman of the Committee Mykola Tomenko stressed the “generally positive assessment of cooperation between the Committee and law-enforcement bodies in the process of monitoring events and effective exchange of information regarding conditions of the cases of obstructing journalists’ lawful professional activity.”
Issues on participation of the deputies’ factions representatives and non-affiliated people’s deputies in everyday 45-minute topical television programmes of the National Radio Company of Ukraine and weekly live programmes also were discussed during the meeting. The Committee unanimously approved respective plans-schedules and instructed M.Tomenko to inform deputies’ factions and people’s deputies about these decisions. Moreover, the Plan of the Committee’s work during the fourth session of the Verkhovna Rada was unanimously adopted.
