Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Rybak mentions that the Law of Ukraine “On eliminating negative consequences, preventing prosecution and punishing people in connection with events taking place during peaceful assemblies” is a political document.
Answering journalists’ questions on evaluation of the abovementioned law
by certain legal institutions during the press conference on Wednesday,
Volodymyr Rybak reminded that the issue of its adoption was initiated by the
representatives of opposition factions. “Everyone understood that this is
rather a political document than a legal one,” he noted, adding that during the
consultations representatives of all political factions agreed to adopt this
law. Thereat, Volodymyr Rybak stressed that this legislative act was adopted by the constitutional majority. “I believe that the Verkhovna Rada did the right thing,” he summed.
