The bill (Reg. No. 3403) is aimed at protection of children’s rights which parents temporarily can not care for them for valid reasons.
Particularly, it is suggested to supplement the Civil and Family Codes of Ukraine with provisions that stipulate establishing interim custody of children, by a mutual application of parents or one parent the child lives with, for a period when parents can not fulfill their obligations for valid reasons. The child protection services control living, bringing up and educational conditions.
During the discussion, the Committee members stressed the reasonability of additional legislative protection of children who, as a result of social, economic or moral and psychological reasons, are left without proper care, education and emotional support when their parents are alive.
Moreover, according to the Committee members, it is necessary to specify the bill’s norms that associate the right of one of the parents to submit an application for establishing interim custody with the fact that the child lives with him/her.
